We require all candidates to pass a live programming exercise conducted by MIT-educated engineers. Each dev must score 90+ on this test. We also vet for communication skills, independence and initiative. Candidates that pass then undergo a qualitative assessment to ensure they can work well without daily guidance.

Traditionally when you think of hiring part-time, you think of measuring work in hours per week. Here at Fraction, we don't use timesheets as we believe that both your and your dev's time is better spent getting stuff done than tracking time. That's what PMs are for. Besides, our fractional talent is usually experienced enough to estimate and manage how long a task will take on their own.
But, for the sake of clarity, you can think of Half Time as approximately 20 - 30 hours worth of work, and attending 2 - 3 stand up meetings per week. Quarter Time is around 10 - 15 hours worth of work, and attending 1 - 2 meetings per week. Half Time is recommended for tight deadlines, as more work is able to get done during the week.
Our fractional hires are available for 2-3 stand-up meetings, and 1-2 longer meetings per week. Fractional developers use your Slack or Microsoft Teams, and are responsive to messages during the day — even as they do larger blocks of work on their own time.
